Danyan Liu is a Chinese-born landscape Architect. She re-examines landscape architect’s conventional roles of producing expected solutions to an assignment and use the project as ‘criticism by design’ that reveals other understandings and envisages alternatives for the future. Her work explores the possibility of reinventing public space collectively, ecologically and politically. Liu is the participating maker of Amsterdam Museum's exhibition Refresh Amsterdam #3: Imagine the Future, marking the 750th anniversary of Amsterdam. She currently teaches at Wageningen University in the Netherlands and conducts PhD about Artistic Research through Design.

She holds a Master of Science in Landscape Architecture from Delft University of Technology and a Honors Programme Master in Infrastructures and Environment. Danyan believes that landscapes have the power to inspire and transform, it is a dialogue, an evolving conversation between nature, people, and place. Everything is connected so as the landscape.

She has extensive experience working at design and real estate sectors in China and the Netherland on climate adaptation, healthcare, energy transition, and sustainable development projects. Her expertise lies in designing resilient, future-proof landscapes that respect natural processes while addressing contemporary challenges.

Besides her love for the external landscape, Danyan is also devoted to exploring the inner landscape. She enjoys art, yoga, reading, and philosophy. Having practiced yoga since 2018, she became a qualified yoga teacher in 2024, a transformative journey that inspires her to embrace the art of less doing and more being. The wisdom of yoga, deeply rooted in Eastern philosophy, nurtures loving-kindness, presence, patience, compassion and much more. Danyan channels her creative energy not only through design but also through writing and painting, with her articles published in several newspapers and magazines.
